Replace the battery, then reset the radio by pressing simultaneously F, HM/RV and (88) (this strange button).. and power-on the radio.
If this procedure fail, shut down the radio, then try to reset again by pressing simultaneously BAND,H/L and V/M, then power-on again.

NOTE if you short also the JP4, with the same procedure as above, the new range you obtain is the following:

TX: 140-174 MHz, and 420-470 MHz;
RX: same as above.

I performed the first expansion, work well.

Locate the CPU on the radio, it has a crystal glued to the top of it and is located in the front left corner of the radio, it’s the largest IC in the radio.

To the EXTREME left of the radio, you will see a row of pads, all empty except for a diode to the front, and one to the back. There are about 6 or 7 spots for diodes, but only 2 installed.

Remove the FRONT (closest to head of radio) diode with a small soldering iron or other tool.

Turn the radio back on, it will AUTOMATICALLY reset.

You now have ext coverage eg. TX 450-470, TX 150-170, etc…

Bit different to my usual posts but I needed somewhere to put this! This ’semi’ hidden sequence will put an ICOM 2800h into cross band repeat mode.

Step #1:
Prior to the cross band mode, set the squelch delay to short or the audio for the first 3 seconds will be chopped off in your next transmission.

Step #2:
To start the cross band mode, set the VHF and UHF frequencies you like to link together for cross band operation, (program the splits, PL tone, etc. all in advance)

Step #3: (Main Step)
Press and hold “CHG/L” button while holding both VHF and UHF “MAIN” buttons simultaneously for few seconds until the blinking key icon appears.

Step #4: (This is an optional step)
Set hang up time to ZERO on cross band repeat mode by pressing and holding “CHG/L” button while holding UHF “MAIN” and bottom menu key at VHF side for few seconds. The Key lock indicator will blink, and the unit is ready to operate.

Step #5:
To disable the cross band, repeat the step #3 above until the blinking KEY icon disappears.
